Fontaines D.C. have never shown much interest in repeating themselves. With their fifth record, Dopamine Chamber, set to arrive on Friday, October 16, the Dublin five piece have taken a deliberate left turn with their latest preview. Titled Where Is Gone?, the track is an orchestral, theatrical piece built alongside Spanish singer Rosalía. Across their first four records, the band avoided outside vocalists entirely, even after Grian Chatten once floated the idea of collaborating with Lana Del Rey. Bringing Rosalía into the mix marks the first time an external singer has appeared on an official album cut.

The release builds on the anticipation following their Mercury nominated 2024 album Romance. Listeners had already heard two tracks from the new project, starting with lead single Marianne and moving into the unsettled mood of Tongue. The complete tracklist surfaced shortly after an intimate live date in Brooklyn, where the band debuted unreleased songs like Six Shot Morning and Happy For You. The presence of Rosalía on the credits quickly drew attention, leaving listeners curious about how the two styles would intersect.

Musically, the song shifts away from the post punk drive that defined their earlier work. A grand, cinematic opening gives way to a restrained vocal from Chatten, who reflects quietly on wet afternoons and muted confessions. Rosalía takes over the melody next, reorienting the track before joining Chatten for a slow, harmonised chorus. Their voices come together to explore resignation and acceptance, lingering on the idea that there is no harm in stepping aside to let an old moment slip away.

For guitarist Carlos O'Connell, working with Rosalía carried meaningful personal resonance. O'Connell, who has spent time reconnecting with his own Spanish heritage, has followed her career since her earliest recordings. He noted that her balance of honouring and modernising Spanish musical traditions mirrors what Fontaines D.C. have pursued with their Irish background. That shared sensibility grounded the song, making the partnership feel like an organic creative link rather than a calculated pairing.

Where Is Gone? arrives during an active chapter for the band. In addition to preparing the record, they recently contributed music to the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack and the War Child Help(2) charity compilation. To mark the release of Dopamine Chamber, the group will perform an intimate show on Thursday, October 15, at London's Roundhouse, with all proceeds benefiting the mental health charity CALM.

That London date serves as a brief pause within an extensive touring calendar. Following their summer headline appearances at Reading and Leeds, the band are currently playing arena dates across the UK and Europe. Next summer will bring even larger outdoor shows, including two nights at Slane Castle with support from Hayley Williams, alongside a double bill at Manchester's Heaton Park with Little Simz and Viagra Boys. With further tour stops confirmed for 2027 in Italy, Germany, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, Dopamine Chamber will be introduced across the biggest rooms the band have ever headlined.
