Norwegian singer songwriter MAIH returns with Porcelain, a song that finds the artist looking at heartbreak from an unusual position. Rather than simply documenting the end of a relationship, the track focuses on the complicated experience of watching other people fall for someone you have already seen in a very different light.
Released September 25 through DUR, Porcelain is the third track on MAIH’s new four-track EP Do You Feel Something Now?. The project continues the emotional territory that has become central to her songwriting, bringing together heartbreak, growing pains and the uncertainty that can come with relationships in your twenties.
At the centre of Porcelain is a contrast between appearance and reality. The song takes its title from something associated with delicacy and fragility, while its story deals with the much messier emotions that can emerge when someone presents themselves differently to the outside world. MAIH explores the frustration of knowing a side of a person that others have not yet experienced, creating a perspective that feels both personal and difficult to resolve.
The song also reflects the way MAIH has developed her writing over the past several years. Her introduction to songwriting came at 13, when she turned a poem about feeling excluded at school into a song. After years of dealing with bullying, songwriting became a way for her to process experiences that were difficult to express directly. That personal connection to writing remains an important part of her work today.
Musically, Porcelain sits within the polished Scandinavian pop tradition, but its emotional subject matter gives the track a darker edge. MAIH combines direct songwriting with a modern pop production built to carry the tension in the story rather than overshadow it. The result is a track that places the emotional conflict at the centre.
Porcelain was written by MAIH and Andreas Haugstad, with production from Haugstad and Brage André Abrahamsen. The collaboration forms part of a new creative period for MAIH, who has spent the past year developing new material with Abrahamsen, a Norwegian producer whose previous work has accumulated more than 70 million streams.
The release follows a significant period in MAIH’s career. Her 2024 debut EP For All of The Times I Broke My Own Heart earned placements on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and EQUAL programs alongside national radio support. In 2025, she was nominated for Artist of the Year at Luttprisen and performed her first headline show in Oslo to an almost sold-out audience.
With Do You Feel Something Now?, MAIH moves further into the emotional territory that has shaped her identity as a songwriter. Porcelain stands out for the tension between its polished pop setting and the uncomfortable reality at the heart of its story, offering another glimpse into an artist continuing to develop her voice within the modern Scandipop scene.
