National Album Day has named Robbie Williams its official Album Icon for 2026. Overseen jointly by the BPI and the digital entertainment and retail association ERA, working alongside BBC Radio 2, the initiative is heading into its ninth edition. Since launching in 2018, the event has sought to focus attention on the format through nationwide retail promotions, instore sessions, and live sets, making Williams a fitting figurehead for a year themed around enduring icons.

The commercial scale of his career gives the choice plenty of weight. Williams has logged 90 million album sales worldwide and racked up 16 UK Number One records. Six of his releases rank among the 100 best-selling albums in British music history, alongside an industry haul that features 18 BRIT Awards and five Ivor Novello Awards. Organisers pointed to his steady defence of the LP over the decades, while Williams noted that the full-length record remains essential for any musician who wants to present a coherent statement across a sequence of songs.

To mark the appointment, Universal Music Recordings and Island Records are issuing a new physical edition of his 2000 album, Sing When You're Winning. The record, which spawned radio hits such as Rock DJ and his Kylie Minogue duet Kids, is getting its very first coloured wax treatment. Arriving as a limited double vinyl set pressed on red and blue discs, the release serves as a prime shelf piece for the campaign, which continues to direct buyers toward independent record shops and traditional high street sellers.

Williams is joined by an eclectic slate of fellow champions for the 2026 push. BRIT Award winner PinkPantheress, composer Max Richter CBE, and Melanie C are all on board to advocate for the format. Their involvement follows a wide-ranging run of past ambassadors that includes Iron Maiden, Wolf Alice, Nova Twins, Travis, Elbow, Lewis Capaldi, and Minogue. The central message remains intact, encouraging listeners to take in an entire record as the musicians originally constructed it in the studio.

The title comes amid a busy calendar for Williams, who opened the year with the arrival of his latest studio effort, Britpop, back in January. His profile outside recording studios has stayed similarly prominent. Appointed as an Official FIFA Music Ambassador, he recently joined Laura Pausini and Nicole Scherzinger on stage to perform Desire at the Final of the FIFA World Cup 26. He also maintains long-running charitable commitments, having worked as a UNICEF ambassador since 2000 and co-founded Soccer Aid, which has raised more than 137 million pounds for global causes.

His concert schedule is stacking up as well. Williams is booked to headline the Lytham Festival, play two stadium shows across Ireland, and top the bill at the British Grand Prix in July. Because the timing of these live commitments aligns closely with Glastonbury 2027, questions about a Worthy Farm booking have predictably returned. Williams previously responded to those suggestions by saying he would readily step into the festival's afternoon Legends Slot, sounding entirely sure that his performance would win over any cynics clinging to an outdated view of his festival set.
