The Shapeshifters return to Glitterbox Recordings with Everything’s Changing, a disco-infused house single featuring British vocalist Sharlene Hector and backing vocals from the Harlem Gospel Choir. Built around live instrumentation, soulful vocals and the producer’s enduring affection for classic disco, the track brings a rich, full-bodied sound to the dancefloor.
Strings take a prominent role in the arrangement, supported by funky basslines and crisp production. Hector’s powerful vocal performance gives the track its emotional centre, while the Harlem Gospel Choir adds another layer of depth. Rather than relying on a sample-led approach, the production draws on musicianship and carefully arranged parts to create its momentum.
The release marks another stage in the creative direction of Simon Marlin, the producer behind The Shapeshifters. Since emerging with the 2003 dance anthem Lola’s Theme, the project has become associated with expansive house music shaped by disco influences, orchestral textures and a strong sense of groove.
Everything’s Changing follows On The Way Up, the Shapeshifters’ collaboration with New York band 79.5. Both releases come from a renewed period of studio activity following the opening of Marlin’s Earthworks Studio. The new work also draws on sessions at Renaissance Studio in Manhattan, bringing together musicians and collaborators from the UK and New York.
For Hector, the single marks her debut on Glitterbox Recordings. Known for her work across soul, R&B and dance music, she brings a vocal style suited to the track’s blend of club energy and classic disco warmth. She described the collaboration as an honour and expressed hope that the song would become part of listeners’ memorable moments.
The Shapeshifters have long worked at the intersection of house music and disco, and Everything’s Changing continues that approach without relying solely on nostalgia. Its live strings, gospel backing and detailed arrangement give the track a sound rooted in dance music tradition while keeping the focus firmly on the present.
Released through Glitterbox Recordings, the single offers another look at Marlin’s current creative direction, where live performance and collaborative production take priority. With Hector at the front and the Harlem Gospel Choir adding weight behind her, Everything’s Changing is built for listeners who want their dance music to carry both groove and vocal presence.
