One of the best small music festivals in Arkansas is set to return to the banks of the Big Piney on Memorial Day weekend. Creekfest, held annually from 2009-2016, returns May 25-27 at Moore Outdoors in Dover.

Throughout its multi-year run, Creekfest has touted an impressive array of musical acts such as The Ben Miller Band, Arkansauce, The 1 oz JigMay The Peace Of The Sea Be With You, Jamie Lou & The Hullabaloo, Mountain SproutCouch Jackets  and many more.  Following a 2017 hiatus due to medical issues arising with Moore Outdoor owners and Creekfest organizers Kerry and Debbie Moore, Shindigmusic recently caught up with festival organizer Nash Moore about the festivals 2018 return.

Creekfest was missing from the 2017 festival season, what marks its return in 2018? For many reasons but the short answer is for our friends, family and love.  We could not have gotten by if not for the help and love from our friends and family. Bringing the creek and music to these beautiful people is our attempt to give back.

Creekfest was known for always having a top-notch lineup of local music heavyweights and was often seen as a starting point for many big local acts such as Couch Jackets and Jamie Lou & The Hullabaloo. Do you already have a lineup set or are you still in the beginning stages? I do have a lineup and will post it on our website Big Piney Creekfest in a few weeks.  I can tell you that we have funk, indie, bluegrass, and blues.

What are some of your best memories from past events? Sharing music and good times with friends and family on and off the stage over the years, but a specific moment is I’ve traveled to see Split Lip Rayfield at least 10 times; I’ve covered their music and they’ve had a big impact on my life. To have them in our corner of the world was amazing. They burned the stage down that night and I stood front and center grinning from ear-to-ear!

Now that the wait is over, how do you think the festivals fans and attendees will feel about your return? Though the news may be better late than never I’d like to think they’ll be more than excited because they will know this return is more than just a music festival. A few months ago a couple showed up and asked if they could go over to the venue. We said “sure,” and asked them if they were wanting to camp. The gentleman had a big question to ask the lady and he wanted to ask her where they met, at a previous Creekfest.  It’s a special little festival and we miss you all!
