Ever wondered what the legendary Rockwood Club looks like on the inside in its raw form? Now’s your chance! Get a sneak peek of this historic building before preservation and construction begins as part of our Rockwood Club Revival Party! An open house will take place at 3 PM Sunday, July 14, at 380 W. 24th St., Fayetteville.

See where rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks stationed themselves while touring the Mid-south. (The Hawks, sans Hawkins, eventually became The Band, featuring Arkansas’ native son Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson, who both reference the nightclub in their biographies.) See the famous spot that served as the stage where the Hawks, Jerry Lee Lewis and Wanda Jackson performed. Walk through the room where Hawkins’ restaurant, The Hawk’s Nest, was located. Discover how the seemingly two-story building actually contains multiple levels! Learn about the other acts who played there, such as Roy Orbison, Sonny Burgess and the Pacers and Carl Perkins. The building was also a groovy 1970s disco before it ended its life cycle as a nightclub.

Then, at 5 p.m., head on down to George’s Majestic Lounge, 519 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville, to hear live music, featuring Earl and Them, The 1 oz. Jig, and The Boss Tweeds.

A silent auction with proceeds to go toward the creation of the Rockwood Club’s museum, which will chronicle its colorful history, will take place at George’s.

The Rockwood Club was built in 1947 and was an early architectural project of Fay Jones, a celebrated architect from Arkansas who would, only a few years later, study with Frank Lloyd Wright. Jones served as a consultant, and his work is recorded with the University of Arkansas’ Special Collections library, which has extensive papers and other documentation of Jones’ work.

Mark Risk, a longtime Fayetteville resident and real estate broker/investor with a passion for live music, is working with people in the community to help bring the building back to life.
