AL BELL NAMED 2018-19 MCLLROY PROFESSOR AT UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS
Fayetteville – The University of Arkansas has named Al Bell – former executive and co-owner of Stax Records – as its 2018-19 McIlroy Family Visiting Professor in the Visual and Performing Arts.
Bell, who is an Arkansas native (Brinkley) will teach master classes, be a musical ambassador and host community events starting on Oct. 29 with an public lecture at the University’s Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development.
The professorship was established by the university’s J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and supports the teaching and work of a professional artist who imparts highly specialized knowledge essential to students’ artistic, educational, and career enrichment and of value to the community at large. The professorship was made possible through the philanthropy of Hayden and Mary Joe McIlroy and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation.
Additional events featuring Bell are being planned and will be announced on the Department of Music website.

Little Rock –Evanescence will be releasing ‘Synthesis Live’ on DVD, Blu-ray, DVD+CD, Blu-Ray+CD on October 12. The footage was recorded last Autumn during the band’s critically-acclaimed Synthesis tour, the concert was captured in state-of-the-art 4K by director P.R. BIKE RACK RECORDS DOCUMENTARY WATCH PARTY
Bentonville – Bike Rack Brewing/Records have teamed up with Ozark Collective to host a special watch party for the BR Records Documentary featuring music from Brother Moses. The event is set for 8PM at the 8th Street Market in Bentonville.

KING BISCUIT BLUES FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR ITS 33rd YEAR
Helena – The King Biscuit Blues Festival kicks off its 33rd installment today in Helena, Arkansas. This years headliners include Bobby Rush on Thursday, Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke on Friday and guitarists Dave Mason and Steve Cropper on Saturday.
The 84-year-old Bobby Rush grew up in Pine Bluff and recently won a Grammy for his 30th album Porcupine Meat.
Mason co-founded british jam pioneers, Traffic, and has played with everyone from Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney to the Rolling Stones. He is joined by Steve Cropper, guitarist and founding member of Booker T. and the MGs, the house band for Memphis soul label Stax.

HOT WATER HILLS IN HOT SPRINGS
Hot Springs – The Hot Water Hills Music festival makes its grand return to the spa city this weekend. Presented by Low Key Arts, the festival takes place Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6, at the Hill Wheatley Plaza (629 Central Avenue) in downtown Hot Springs.
Headlining the festival Friday night are Larkin Poe (Nashville, TN), with JD Wilkes (Nashville, TN, of Legendary Shack Shakers fame), Brian Martin (of Sad Daddy), Bas Clas (original Lafayette, LA rabble-rousers), Modeling. Saturday features headlining sets set by BRONCHO, Lola Marsh, Miles Francis, Reckless Saints, Rah HoWard, The Violet Ultras and the Spa City Youngbloods.

AMASA HINES EP RELEASE SHOW
Little Rock – Amasa Hines will celebrate the release of their latest EP, Ivory Loving Glass, with a show at the Rev Room in Little Rock this Saturday night. The show is set to kick off at 9PM and features guest appearances from Issac Alexander and Yuni Wa.
The EP will be released as a limited edition 12″ on sea glass colored vinyl. Pre-orders are available now.
HOLY SMOKES! TO PLAY FORT SMITH’S “BENEFIT FOR HOPE” CONCERT
Fort Smith – Emo punkers Holy Smokes! will play Fort Smith’s Garrison Commons in the city’s downtown area on Saturday. The show, which will also feature music from a pair of fellow punk acts — Fort Smith’s Young Bolt and Fayetteville’s Ghost Cities — to benefit the Riverview Hope Campus, Fort Smith new nonprofit community center that addresses homelessness and poverty.
