Twenty years on from the release of Back To Black, the musicians who built the sound alongside Amy Winehouse are returning to Camden for an evening dedicated to the record. On October 21, her original studio and touring band will stage the 2006 album in its entirety at London's Roundhouse. The performance comes together just days ahead of the October 27 anniversary of a release that shifted more than twenty-five million copies globally and turned Winehouse into an unavoidable presence in modern music.
Overseeing the concert are producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, joined by Winehouse's longtime bass player and musical director Dale Davis. Production partners Paul O'Duffy and p*nut will participate as well, along with former Island Records president Darcus Beese. Because Winehouse cannot be replaced, vocal duties will be shared across an extensive group of invited singers. The lineup includes Corinne Bailey Rae, Lianne La Havas, Jorja Smith, Jessie Reyez, Yebba, Baby Rose, FLO, Nia Smith, Sasha Keable, and Skye Newman.
For Ronson, taking part alongside Remi offers an opportunity to look back at an album whose legacy they feel an obligation to protect, noting his gratitude for assembling vocalists capable of handling such demanding material. Remi reflected on the speed with which twenty years have slipped by since those original studio sessions, adding that he is eager to see how a new group of artists will approach songs that have remained etched in public memory for decades.
Staging the concert at the Roundhouse gives the night an inescapable historical weight. Camden was Winehouse's home for much of her life, and the venue was where she made her final public stage appearance. On July 20, 2011, during the iTunes Festival, she stepped out alongside her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, dancing and lending moral support as Bromfield performed tracks from Good For The Soul. Winehouse died three days later at her Camden residence at the age of twenty-seven. With this past summer marking fifteen years since her death, family members including her mother Janis have continued to speak about the lasting reach of her catalog.
Carrying the music forward has been a delicate undertaking for the musicians who worked with her. Speaking in 2024, Dale Davis admitted that he initially felt uncomfortable performing the songs without her, before coming to understand that these concerts provide a space that listeners genuinely need. The band continues, Davis noted, out of the affection and respect established during their years together, aiming to represent the work as faithfully as possible. Ronson voiced a similar tribute earlier this year while accepting the Outstanding Contribution To Music award at the 2026 BRIT Awards, recalling how the afternoon Winehouse first walked into his New York studio permanently altered his life, before he performed Back To Black and invited the Dap-Kings to play Valerie.
The Roundhouse concert will reach a wider audience outside London through television and radio. BBC Two will broadcast the filmed performance later in October as the centerpiece of an evening of programming dedicated to Winehouse. Radio listeners will also be able to hear the set on BBC Radio 2 on October 26, when it airs between 7pm and 9pm during Jo Whiley's show.
The concert coincides with a comprehensive archival reissue. On October 23, UMR and Island are releasing an expanded twentieth anniversary edition of Back To Black. The package collects four previously unreleased demos alongside rare B-sides and extra studio tracks, paired with a complete live set recorded on February 8, 2007 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. That performance was captured during the touring cycle that eventually yielded five Grammy awards in 2008, when Rehab took Record of the Year and the LP collected Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
