Jeremy & The Harlequins turn their attention to conspiracy culture on a new single that combines an unmistakably vintage musical palette with a sharply contemporary subject.
Gus DeWine is built around a fictional character whose repeated insistence that he is merely asking questions becomes a vehicle for examining how prejudice and conspiracy theories can be disguised as curiosity. The song approaches its subject through satire, presenting a character whose grievances gradually reveal a much darker worldview.
The music deliberately pulls from the past. Rockabilly, 60s pop and outlaw country provide the foundation, while a heavily distorted baritone guitar gives the track a tougher, darker edge. The contrast between the familiar warmth of vintage American music and the subject matter creates much of the song's impact.
Jeremy Fury describes the character as a composite drawn from people he has encountered and argued with over the years. That personal basis gives the song a more specific focus than a general statement about internet culture. Its target is the familiar pattern of rhetoric in which increasingly extreme claims are presented under the cover of skepticism or innocent inquiry.
The band also uses humor as part of the approach. Rather than treating the character with solemnity, the songwriting exaggerates his logic until the contradictions become difficult to ignore. The result is confrontational without abandoning the swagger and immediacy associated with the band's roots in rock and roll.
Gus DeWine arrives October 7, 2026, with Jeremy & The Harlequins using an old-school American sound to address a subject that is firmly rooted in the present.
