Metallica started their M72 world tour back in April 2023 to support their studio album 72 Seasons, and the campaign is still finding fresh ground. Rather than wrapping things up anytime soon, the band have pushed their live calendar all the way out to 2027. That newly confirmed leg will take them through a dozen open air venues across North America, accompanied by Limp Bizkit and the Swedish group Avatar.
The spring run begins on May 8 at BC Place in Vancouver, moving south to San Diego for an evening at Snapdragon Stadium on May 13. Texas picks up the next two stops, with Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso on May 18 and the Alamodome in San Antonio on May 22. From there, the itinerary shifts through the Midwest and the East Coast, hitting Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville on May 26, Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on May 29, Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on June 2, and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on June 5. The closing stretch takes in Highmark Stadium in Buffalo on June 8, Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on June 12, Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland on June 15, before finishing at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on June 19. As with earlier iterations of this tour, every concert will feature the band performing in the round.
For concertgoers eager to lock in their plans years ahead of time, the on-sale window arrives quickly. The fan club presale begins at 10am local time on Monday, September 21, and the general public sale follows at 10am local time on Friday, September 25. Limp Bizkit marked the joint announcement online with a quick nod to the pairing, calling the partnership Limptallica twenty seven.
The invitation finds Fred Durst and company riding a noticeable wave of renewed visibility. Limp Bizkit topped the bill at Download Festival in June, leaning hard into their older catalog for the headlining slot. It was an appearance that carried some historical weight for the group, taking place twenty three years after they famously walked away from the inaugural edition of that same event.
Before those massive outdoor dates roll around, Metallica will take an entirely different path through the Nevada desert. The group are booked for a Las Vegas residency dubbed Life Burns Faster inside the Sphere. Drummer Lars Ulrich admitted that catching U2 inside the space left him energized, inspired, and awestruck, though he was just as candid about the difficulty of staging a heavy metal production inside it. Ulrich called the undertaking intimidating, overwhelming, and genuinely challenging.
That appetite for testing themselves in strange or demanding spaces has defined this entire tour cycle. When Metallica wrapped up their summer run with two nights at London Stadium, they adhered strictly to their no repeats premise, delivering completely distinct setlists for each evening. They also took time during the European itinerary to tip their hats to local songwriting, pulling out The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) in Glasgow and The Pogues' Dirty Old Town in Dublin.
Even with their tour diary stretched out three years into the distance, studio thoughts have not gone completely quiet. Kirk Hammett mentioned last year that he had already collected 767 distinct riffs for their next record, even suggesting that the group could find themselves looking back toward the nineties on the creative side. With these stadium dates confirmed, audiences have a very clear picture of what the live calendar looks like while those ideas wait in the wings.
