Akanimo

warmth · 2024

Musical versatility has been a defining part of Akanimo's artistic identity. The Charlotte-based rapper and vocalist moves across hip-hop, R&B, acoustic music and electronic influences, approaching his work with an interest in exploring different sounds and styles. Room Service, released through Ominaka Records, forms part of a catalogue that reflects this broad creative direction. Akanimo first introduced his musical world with his self-titled debut mixtape in July 2020, followed by the EP Where There's Smoke later that year. One of its tracks, I'll Give You That, received recognition through Vocalo's Poised To Breakthrough playlist, bringing further attention to his developing sound. He continued building his catalogue with the mixtape Good Luck in 2021 and the EP DISTORTION, which featured two of his most successful tracks, Relaxation Electric and Feelings Change. Across these releases, Akanimo has developed an approach that brings together sharp lyricism, melodic vocals and an unconventional flow. Room Service adds another release to this evolving body of work. While the available information offers little detail about the track's specific themes or production, its place within Akanimo's catalogue provides an opportunity to explore an artist whose creative direction extends beyond a single genre. With a musical background spanning several styles, Akanimo continues to build on his identity as an artist who values experimentation and variety. Room Service is another part of that journey, reflecting the wider creative world he has been developing since his earliest releases.
